Cultural Tours Calendar 2012-2013

 

The Malta Council for Culture and the Arts has prepared a new series of Cultural Tours.  These tours have become a fixed appointment for many patrons who wish to learn more about our national heritage and all that is part of the Maltese way of life.

Eight tours have been planned between Sunday 25th November 2012 and the 18th of May 2013.  The first tour is themed ‘The Cult of the Dead’. Participants will visit the cemeteries of Marija Addolorata and Ta’Braxia.  Together with certified professional guides you will have the opportunity to visit the Museum and Crypt where the mummified corpses of Capuchin Friars are buried in Floriana.

Transport for this tour will leave from near a well known Hotel in Floriana at 08.45am.

Tour 2 Sunday 16th December 2012

Nativity Art and the works of Mattia Preti in Valletta

Visits to various sites where there are works by Mattia Preti, depicting Nativity scenes and  the adoration of the Magi.

Malta 5D-A unique experience to discover the history and culture of the islands through the eyes of a falcon filmed in 3D.

Tour 3 Sunday 27th January 2013

The Roman remains, l-Imgiebah, prehistoric and Punic tombs in Xemxija

The Wignacourt Tower where a live representation will be held


Tour 4 Sunday 24th February 2013

Place of interest in Zejtun including The Oratory and bone depository
The church of Saint Philip and that of Christ the Redeemer in Ghaxaq

Tour 5 Sunday 24th March 2013

The cult of Holy Week in Gozo
Cultural tour to our Sister Island of Gozo where we shall visit places of interest and religious exhibitions. In the village of Qala we will see a traditional procession associated with Good Friday

Tour 6 Sunday 14th April 2013

A guided walk to Saint Thomas Tower in Wied il-Ghajn, Xrobb l-Ghagin Nature Park, The Delimara Lighthouse and the Rihana Gun Battery

Tour 7 Sunday 28th April 2013

The Maritime Museum and Inquisitor’s Palace in Birgu
Sultan’s Gate
Zabbar Sanctuary Museum

Tour 8 Saturday 18th May 2013

Cultural tour to Sicily visiting Modica and Ragusa.

Applications for these tours are available from the offices of Malta Council for Culture and the Arts 230 Republic Street, Valletta and bookings are accepted till the Wednesday preceding the tour in question.
