Update: Body of French girl found dead

The body of a 17-year old French girl who went missing at sea on Saturday while she was swimming in the Xwejni Bay, Marsalforn was found on Monday,  at about 9.30am in the same bay during a search by the Armed Forces of Malta and Civil Protection Department.   

The corpse of a 53-year old man was recovered from sea on Saturday by the Armed Forces.

Both were together swimming when they encountered problems in rough seas. 

He tried to save the girl who found herself in difficulty. The girl is a friend of his daughter.

The authopsies will be carried out today, as the police try to establish the circumstances which led to the drowning of a man and a teenage girl.

So very sad. Please people learn to treat the sea with respect and only swim within your limits. Gozo is a beautiful island with lots of lovely safe places to swim so if your not sure about the waters ask a local. Tragic end to what should have been a great holiday.
