December 13 road to open on time

Infrastructure Minister Joe Mizzi told reporters that the December 13 road works in Marsa are expected to be completed on time next February.

The minister was speaking at a press conference to introduce a temporary traffic flow system through Dock 7 at Marsa to ease congestion on south bound traffic.

Part of the December 13 road, from near the Mounted Police offices to the bridge near the San Gorg Preca Catholic Doctrine headquarters in Blata l-Bajda is being reopened this afternoon.

Dr Mizzi said that the lane currently being used will be closed to traffic which means south bound drivers will now have to use the temporary route along Dock 7. Architect Audrey Testaferrata de Noto said this temporary road will be open Mondays to Fridays between 6 and 9.30am and from noon to 6pm for cars headed towards Cottonera, Zabbar and Paola.

Cars headed to Birzebbuga, Marsaxlokk, Ghaxaq and Gudja and heavy traffic headed southbound should drive through Marsa Cross Roads towards Aldo Moro, as is currently being done

The minister said that when the new government took over they found that the work had been stopped in November for no reason what-so-ever threatening €5.5 million from European funds and exacerbating the traffic problem. The project is costing a total €7.5 million.
