Zammit's case put off as OLAF report kept secret

The case of businessman and former canvasser for John Dalli and PN Sliema Deputy Mayor, Silvio Zammit,  was put off and deferred on Thursday morning as  requested by the prosecution.

The prosecution yesterday asked that the case be postponed because they were caught up in investigating the corruption case of Frank Sammut involving oil procurement by Enemalta.

Although Magistrate Anthony Vella said that he found no difficulty for the OLAF report to be released and published, it is still kept under wraps.

Defence lawyers, Dr Edward Gatt and Dr Kris Busietta pleaded for Zammit, 48, that the police were failing seriously in the execution of their duties by denying the defence all the documentation related to the case.

They argued that the attorney general did not want to present the report because there was a possibility that Mr Dalli, the former commissioner, would be arraigned. But the accused, Zammit, had been investigated and taken to court because of the report, Dr Gatt argued.

In a court hearing last December, Inspector Gafa' told the court that Mr Zammit had told the European Smokeless Tobacco Council that Mr Dalli was willing to take risks like he did with the GMO directive.

Silvio Zammit is charged with bribery and trading in influence, in an alleged request for a €60 million bribe he made to influence tobacco legislation that was being spearheaded by Dalli when he was European Health Commissioner.

Inspector Gafa' claimed that information about the OLAF investigation was leaked to Mr Zammit before he was interrogated. He said that Dr. Gayle Kimberly had had an extra-marital relationship with Lottery Gaming Authority compliance officer Iosif Galea, a man who is in business with Silvio Zammit through the circus promotion company JS Events and is also a colleague of Dr Kimberly at the Gaming Authority. Dr Kimberley represented Swedish Match in Malta.

The compilation of evidence case was put off yesterday to next Thursday.

BETTER FUTURE

Isn't that all the fault of Joseph Muscat and the new Movement as well! Oops! Sorry, I meant Malta Today.

However, you may excuse me for mistaking this Media house for Muscat, as the PN are constantly blaming Muscat, even for my internet's connection flicking on and off with every burst of wind and rain.

But seriously, what does this Police unit plan to do when Labour is in Government, the Whistleblowers Act in place, and many bloodied people dressed in rags and with dirty, wind blown hair dragged down Republic Street to the waiting blood drenched gallows?

All because there would be too many cases to follow, and the people would have lost all patience waiting for this unit to do the right thing.

Imsiekken!!! Forgive them for they know not what they are doing.

What about the case alleged by ex Mayor N. Dimech? N. Dimech had alleged thyat Paul borg Olivier had phoned him up to influence him awarding the waste contract, worth more than 12 million euros to GreenMT. Nothing happened so far, neither by the police nor by the Attorney General. And wjhat about the other ex Mahyor of Sliema Joanna Gonzi, who as alleged by 2 Sliema Councillors, awarded the same contrct to GreenMT without the contract being discussed at any council meeting? Even in this case no action had been taken so far, neither by the Police nor by the Attorney General. Whoc an enlighten me on these two cases?
