Many unions and associations join the rest of the Maltese people in mourning the passing away of former Prime Minister Dom Mintoff, who is recognised by everyone as a politician who has indelibly influenced the historical course of our nation, introduced the welfare state and started building a modern sovereign state.

Żminijietna, For.U.M., General Workers' Union, Kunsill Studenti Universitarji, Pulse, GRTU, Union Ħaddiema Magħqudin, Malta Developers Association are a few amongst many who wished to publicly express the solidarity of its members with Mr Mintoff’s family in their moment of grief.

On an international level, Dom Mintoff remains arguably Malta's best known export. A controversial figure, spanning for 53 years in the political sphere, Mintoff was a synonym of Malta worldwide.

The international media reported Dom Mintoff's death with prominence. Foreign news agencies such as BBC, Washington Post, the New York Times, UK Times, Reuters, Associated Press all praised Mintoff's achievements.

After the news broke, the social media sites were swamped with comments and videos commemorating his life. It is sad that some bloggers decided to vilify his memory despite the messages of grief flooding the net.
