Former Prime Minister Dom Mintoff released from hospital

Former Prime Minister Dom Mintoff, showing signs of improvement was released on Saturday from Mater Dei hospital. 

He has been receiving treatment in the Intensive Therapy Unit since the last week of July.

His condition has been described as critical by the Cardiology Team responsible for his care, however showing signs of improvement he was sent home to resume his rest in his home in Tarxien.

The last time he was in hospital was last February when he was discharged after having undergone nine days of intensive in-patient care for a severe chest infection and congestive heart failure.

Mintoff who is now 95, was admitted to hospital several times last year.

He will turn 96 on August 6.
