UK Minister for Europe on Malta visit

David Lidington MPUK Minister for Europe at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, will be in Malta on July 16 and 17 for an official visit. The visit is designed to strengthen the close ties between Malta and the UK.

 

Mr Lidington’s visit comes at a time when the EU faces a number of significant challenges. It is an opportunity for the UK to continue to work closely with Malta on the issues affecting both countries, making the most of our strong relationship and shared views in many areasThe Minister will call on Deputy Prime Minister Tonio Borg and Finance Minister Tonio Fenech, and he will meet senior members of the Opposition. 

 

The Minister will also attend a reception onboard HMS Echo, berthed in the Grand Harbour, as well participate in a Public Dialogue “Europe: The Financial Challenges Ahead”, organised by the Malta-EU Steering and Action Committee (MEUSACat 10am on 17 July at the Mediterranean Conference Centre in Valletta. This will later be aired on TVM2.

This is the second of a number of high profile visitby UK public figures to Malta this year. In April HRH The Duke of Gloucester visited to mark HM The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and to commemorate the 70thanniversary of the awarding of the George Cross to Malta. Later this summer the UK Chief of the Defence Staff and the First Sea Lord will also be visiting.
