Air Malta’s employees in tears – PM nowhere to be seen

Last Friday was the last day in which Air Malta employees had to decide whether to leave their job at the airline or accept the new conditions set by the restructuring team. Air Malta employees told maltastar.com that the last few days have been heartbreaking for many of them: “Those who are leaving and those who are staying are all heart broken to see what happened to the company.”

An employee who dedicated 35 years of his life to Air Malta said: “It is becoming so sad these past few days, hearing of people who have decided to leave Air Malta to save themselves and their families. It is staring to hurt shaking hands and kissing friends goodbye, when they come up to my office, telling me it is their last day! After all the many years we have worked together, night and day, rain or shine. It is not fair! It is not fair! We did not deserve this, and yet the chosen few who remain are counting their blessings and juggling between them which new position or promotion suits them best. It is not fair.”

Air Malta employees taking up the early retirement scheme received a letter from the Office of the Prime Minister dated 11 January 2012 telling them “Any person taking up employment in the public administration” and receiving public funds “in the form of Voluntary Redundancy, Early Retirement … will have to refund in whole or in part” the money given.

It was signed by the Principal Permanent Secretary Godwin Grima.

Air Malta employees said this time, when hundreds of them are losing their jobs, Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi is nowhere to be seen. On the eve of the last general election he had written personally to all the Air Malta employees guaranteeing them their job and a better income.

Last July addressing a demonstration in solidarity with Air Malta employees President of Forum Unions Maltin said: “You can buy a vote by bribing people with money. You can also make tem false promises that then you cannot keep.”

I don't want to sound cruel, but Air Malta employees got what they deserved. Who voted for GonziPN? I know a lot of them who are diehards PN...unfortunately those who didn't had the same fate.

I only hope that ALL Airmalta employees will remember how GonziPN treats promises at the next elections. Once bitten, twice shy, or will your surely vote for this bare faced liar once again?

Same story as Malta Shipyards. Before elections Gonzipn signed an sent a job guarantee letter, but after 3 month he issued the retirement schemes. Gonzipn threatened the workers that if these not taken he will liquidate the shipyards. These threats left the workers and their families in distress. Hope this time Gonzipn will not dare and ask these workers and their families to thrust him for the next election. Gonzipn, you lost your credibility when signing these ghost promises.

Its very very simple what this PM is doing to Air Malta, The game just started, so nopw the deadline has closed and 500+ have applied for early retierment.
The Finace minister just issued some Govt Bonds unsecured and with that money he will pay the POOR SOULS Haddiema ta Air Malta, later he file for bankrapsy.

In 1970 the PN government with great pomposity and fine, endless propaganda hammered for a long time the creation of Air Melita. But it was one of the failures of the PN administration under the Premiership of Dr. Gorg Borg Olivier.

Every PN administration since 1987 including that of Gonzi Partit Negattiv never administered Air Malta in a professional way as every Labour Government did.

During the election campaign of 1987 the Labour Party warned the people that if PN wins the election. All the things that the Labour government had created will be destroyed by PN administrations.

Time was right with the Labour Party for PN's policies destroyed many of the public entities that Labour created from nothing and against the will of the PN in Opposition.

Every PN administration including Gonzi Partit Negattiv bankcrupt Air Malta and the country. When election comes all Air Malta employees and their families should remember the Gonzi Partit Negattiv's treason and broken promises and VOTE LABOUR.

It's a shame to promise something just to bribe votes. 'Flimkien kollox possibli' to gain 500 euros weekly but not to ensure the jobs of Airmalta employees as promised personaly by Gonzipn. Think well when promisd by pn on every time election appears. Staqsi lin nassaba.

The pm does not give a hoot about the Air Malta employees, as right now his only concern, is how to keep attached to his pm chair, mela l-Air Malta, jew il Pajjiz.

PAR IDEJN SODI. that what our dear PM told us. Yes I still have the letter that the Dr. Gonzi have send us during the last election, BUT who ever believed it went wrong. My husband too today had his last night shift and came home this morning with a broken heart. After more than 30 yrs working hard at Air Malta. It was only PL who really worked for Air Malta as PN works for Hbieb tal Hbieb only.
