Oil scandal:PM's Office issues statement

The Government has taken note of the statement made by the Leader of the Opposition on the Auditor General's investigation of oil buying scandal.

The Government is in favour of the Public Accounts Committee meeting  during the summer holidays to discuss this case. The Government also feels that if there is a need, Parliamentary debate should take place when the House is reconvened.

The Government is surprised that the Leader of the Opposition made this request to the Government when he could have met the Committee whose Chairman is a member of the Opposition.

The Government suggests that the first preparations for the convening of the Public Accounts Committee could start as early as next Friday.
