Nine Gozo Channel employees admit to stealing money

Nine Gozo Channel employees admitted in the Gozitan court on Wednesday, to stealing money from the the cash register in the ferry’s cafeteria for the past six years. The amount of the theft totalled to thousands of euro.

According to the prosecutors, the employees, who are all Gozitan, were caught on CCTV cameras.

The police started investigating the case after receiving reports that from 2007, Cafeteria employees were stealing considerable amounts of money from the cash registers.

The accused are Paul Said,55 from Qala, Anthony Mercieca, 47 from Xewkija, Alexander Cini, 40 from Zebbug, Joseph Azzopardi, 25 from Ghajnsielem, Leanne Portelli, 31 from Rabat, Sarah Buttigieg, 32 from Sannat, Dery Joseph Gauci, 31 from Kercem and Darren Xerri, 29 from Ghajnsielem. The nine admitted to the accusations made against them and got charged with three years’ probation.

The only person who was accused and did not admit stealing was James Joseph Muscat, 35 from Xaghra. 

Supretendent Simon Galea and Poice Inspector Frank Tabone prosecuted.

What about the Gozo Channel Management, were they on snooze mode all these years? Where are the checks and balances? Where are the supervisors and managers? This was a systematic practice happening for years, not a one-off!
I think the government needs to act on its promises on making managements and boards accountable. Heads need to start rolling if we want real performance to take place!

This is the same with 13.5% of disable pension yet you see these poor people woring in fields,fishing,carpenters, drivers, tourism,and so forth! How about snap checkes on these people who are "SUCKING" our money??????????!!!!
