Austin Gatt loses Enemalta in Cabinet reshuffle
10 February 2010 09:30
Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi announced the new Cabinet, retaining its ‘lean’ quality but which also passes a verdict on its Ministers.

Infrastructure Minister Austin Gatt was stripped of the responsibilities of Enemalta and Water Service Corporation, which have now passed under the portfolio of Finance Minister Tonio Fenech. Minister Gatt keeps information and transport.

Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi got rid of environment, and passed it to Mario De Marco, parliamentary secretary, who is now responsible for the Malta Environment and Planning Authority (MEPA), tourism and culture.

Minister Dolores Cristina kept education but is now also responsible for employment and family affairs (formerly known as social policy). Minister Giovanna Debono managed to retain the Ministry for Gozo.

Joe Cassar was promoted to health minister, with Mario Galea retaining responsibility for the elderly and community care.

Jason Azzopardi, parliamentary secretary will be responsible for small business and land, while Chris Said for consumers, fair competition, local councils and public dialogue.

An important development is the Cabinet strategic unit, which will see 'sections' of the MEPA under the OPM, Prime Minister Gonzi said.
