“Time to take action” - Labour Party to open LGBT section
|
02 November 2009 18:22
The Labour Party is to set up the Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual and Transgender (LGBT) section.
During a meeting with the international lesbian and gay association and the Rainbow Rose, Labour Leader Joseph Muscat said that it is high time to stop being hypocritical with this section of society.
The Labour Party is the first political party in Malta to have a LGBT section. The LGBT section is also expected to have a representative in the PL General Conference.
“We believe that it is high time to take concrete action on gay rights,” Joseph Muscat said.
Labour MP Gino Cauchi, spokesperson for civil society and civil rights for minorities and the FLZ LGBT attended the meeting.

M.Borg
The creation of anLGBT section within the party has coincided with a heavy push in advertisemnet by gays depicting healthy (?) families composed of parents(?) of the same sex. No Mr. Borg this is against nature that is why I object.
Iam sorry to say that of late the party I have supported for over 50 years seems to be doing away with principles to obtain power. That is why I would have prefered the P.L. to stir away from certain controversies. I have nothing against hese people but surely they cannot use the word family to consecrate their union. For people of a certain age it is simple not acceptable and the P.L. should also see that our view is respected. No?

@Carmel Cilia
What has the advert you mentioned, to do with the PL's move to give LGBTs a voice in today's society.
Do not confuse issues, input like yours only puts doubts in peoples' mind regarding the good intentions.
Personnaly I am not gay or whatever but do believe that these people suffer a number od disadvantages that need to be addressed and only the PL is able to do so, like it was the MLP in the 70's who decriminalized homosexual behaviour between consenting adults in private.

I have seen some advertising of a lesbian family with two women and two small boys showing at various bus stops. I expect in some years from now at christmas time we expect to start seeing cards with baby Jesus Maryand Giuseppa. I have nothing against gays etc etc but please let us not degenerate the natural family. Enough is enough.

I do agree with m.borg. This should be until they establish themselves and then should nominate anyone to present the LGBT - Well done PL. This is what we call Progressive Movement. The old mentality shoul change now we are in 2009.

Hey you Lesbian, Gay, Transgender and Bi-Sexual people, let's have your contribution in the PL media and tell us what you think of this most progressive action our Leader have taken. You know that PL promises are carried out and so you can now give us your feedback.
You know this is slightly dangerous for the Party to do. So now you can tell all your members to vote labour so that all the PL have promised to do will be carried out.

A very good move by the PL, which will give rights to this section of the community, but what about DIVORCE????
Aren't we also suffering TOO!!!!

Good idea.
As regrads the member on the PL general councill this should be for a period until such time the LGBT establish themselves and get a seat under their own steam.
