Zminijietna – Voice of the Left expressed its disagreement to the bye-laws suggested by the Mellieha Local Council to stop barbeques and camps at Ghadira Bay.
‘Public beaches should serve as a recreation area for public use. Its ironic that the local Council, which is there for the public, is proposing that the public should be allowed less space for recreation, especially in times of increasing cost of living. If some people pollute beaches in such activities, there should be more bins catering for charcoal residual and more enforcement from environmental wardens, whose service is quite scarce in Malta.’
‘It would be better if the Mellieha Local Council takes clear positions on developments which are raising eyebrows. These include the development of Hotels near the coast, and the proposal of Ghadira road, which lacks any scientific study’, Zminijietna said.
‘Where was the Mellieha Local Council when the Valley at Mellieha was being destroyed? added the Left wing organisation.
'Embellishment of public spaces should not lead to privatization and less public access’.
