Ryanair misleading the public - Air Malta
|
03 July 2009 15:45
Air Malta strongly rebutted the statement issued by Ryanair this week in which the airline said it confirmed that the Irish airline is Europe’s number one for customer service with the best on time performance, the fewest cancellations and the least lost bags.
Ryanair also tried to undermine Air Malta’s consistently good operational performance amongst European airlines, Air Malta said in a statement on Friday afternoon.
Ryanair was commenting on the Association of European Airlines Consumer Report for Winter 2008/09. Ryanair is not a member of this Association. This is the second time that Ryanair has issued such a misleading statement on the Maltese carrier.
The report confirmed Air Malta’s consistent top rankings amongst European airlines vis-à-vis flight regularity and for not losing luggage. On these two items, Air Malta ranked second amongst 28 European airlines members of the Association who provide the association with consumer information according to a set of commonly defined standards.
A spokesperson for Air Malta said that, “Achieving such results when benchmarked with other top European airlines is an achievement we at Air Malta are proud of. Understandably such consistently good performance irritates Ryanair who try to challenge this report with home brewed statistics that cannot be independently verified. ”
In this report the AEA clearly states that, “Any similar statistics reported by airlines who are not part of the AEA Consumer Report should not, under any circumstances, be construed as representing a fair comparison with the figures presented herein. AEA cannot guarantee the accuracy of such figures and indeed has reason to believe that they may represent entirely different performance criteria”.
The Association of European Airlines (AEA) brings together 34 European established scheduled network carriers. These collectively carry 370 million passengers and 7 million tonnes of cargo each year, operating 2,600 aircraft serving 615 destinations in 165 countries with 11,575 flights a day. They provide around 423,000 jobs directly, and generate a total turnover of €78 billion.
With full service treatment, brand new environmentally friendly aircraft fleet together with quality in-flight entertainment, a poolable 20kg free baggage allowance for economy class passengers and 30kg for Club Class passengers and an interlineable network where passengers can transit and continue their journeys beyond Air Malta’s network of destinations, the Maltese airline is making sure that it continues to be the best value focused carrier operating the Malta route, the statement said.
Air Malta prides itself of offering these services without resorting to ludicrously hidden charges when booking online, checking-in their luggage and when using the traditional check-in services.

I don't want to be misunder stood, it seems that there is some one else godwin vassallo, and I never in my life flew to Gatwick I only visit Italy Treviso and sure I will go with Ryanair because they have got the best prices and even good flights, the only restrictions that I don't agree with is the baggage you send on plane and pay 30 Euro both ways, the wieght is only 15 Kilos at least make it 20 Kilos.

In reply to Godwin Vassallo 3rd July 2009, so you had to move luggage from one suitcase to another before flying Ryanair from Gatwick to Malta, strange ! Ryanair do NOT fly that route, you dreaming or something ... I expect you work for Air Malta, so in future get your facts right before you make any comment about anything

Oh Dear ! here we go knocking Ryanair yet again, Ryanair is a lost cost excellent no frills airline. They have rules ie. baggage weight and on -line checking in charges but if you abide by them you get a hassle free good safe flight which for me is very important, you are not served rubbish food like on all Air Malta flights, if you want to eat you pay a resonable price but at least you have the choice ! Drinks are the same price as Air Malta so where is the problem ? Air Malta are too expensive for the ordinary general public and Ryanair have given the Maltese a choice plus the bonus of bringing thousands of extra tourists to our Islands. Wake up and grow up Malta, we need Ryanair like a duck needs water !

We certainly reckon that AirMalta is one of the most expensive airline in Europe and unless they bring the prices down to earth, the days of AirMalta will be numbered, sorry but i still get value for money when choosing to fly for a cheaper price. They are simply cutting their own throats and by the time Malta relaize it; will all be too bloody late. Keep it up AirMalta its a sure way of encouraging others to use RyanAir. Brian O'Hara

Every time I travelled I always used Air Malta, our national air carrier. Excellent service, friendly crew and value for money with very high standard. Keep it up and let's ensure that it remains like that for our mutual benifit that is the airline and us travellers. We Maltese should be proud of our own airline and lets make use of it's services every time we travel.

Come on guys, speak the truth. I flew with Ryanair and they are cheap, even with the extras that are being introduced. In my opinion, ryanair should include everything in the price, and still they will be cheaper. With respect to the other items, the flight is similar to any other airlines. I always check out the total with Airmalta, but have never had a cheaper flight with respect to money but not the service.

During the past two years I have used both Ryanair and Air Malta. I am very sorry to state that I will not use the service of Ryanair again as I was disappointed with the extra hidden charges in the flight ticket. Also I was made to shift the contents from one luggage to another at Gatwick airport check in desk as their representative did not want to consider our two suitcases as one so not to exceed the weight limit. I never had this problem with Air Malta not even when all the luggage did exceed the limit weight.
Keep it up Air Malta you're the no 1 for us.1

I have a daughter who leaves in Venice and we or she visit nearly every 6 weeks obviasly with Ryanair because we find a cheap flight and we book. Last February I visited with my wife to Treviso 2 tickets where only 40Euro both ways, when I cheked Airmalta flights they where more than 400 Euro so what do except. Your firm had a flight direct to Venice and you stoped it, why don't you try to do something similar, or please if you have cheap flights please inform me.

RyanAir i wouldn't trust them let alone fly with that carrier. I wish all Maltese support our national Airline of AirMalta, the best as far as i am concerned, i admit a bit pricey but then we are paying for an excellent service and an excellent crew. NB> i do not work for Airmalta or have any other connections, i just like to thank AirMalta as a frequent flyer to Amsertdam that we always get a good service and no complaint and at least i don't have to fork out a £ to go to the loo!or pay over the top for a drink or a packet of crisp.
