Prime Minister Dr Lawerence Gonzi has failed to offer a reassurance that each person who is on the electoral list is eligible to vote.
Prime Minister Lawerence Gonzi was asked by maltastar.com whether he could offer a guarantee that each person who was eligible to vote for a General Election, instead he opted to discuss the proposed amendment on the General Election Act.
Pressed on to provide an answer on whether or not a person who has been living abroad for over two years without paying taxes in Malta was eligible to vote in General Elections, Prime Minister Gonzi said that anyone who had a doubt had to seek the judgment of the Court.
On Wednesday, during the parliamentary debate on the proposed amendment a heated argument ensued between Dr Joseph Muscat, Leader of the Labour Party, and Dr Tonio Borg, minister for Foreign Affairs, when Muscat challenged Borg to offer a guarantee that the electoral list was correct.
Tonio Borg said that it was impossible to verify the eligibility of each and every person on the electoral list, a situation which Muscat described as a "farce."

I happened to be at home & heard the parliamentary discussion about the electoral amendments that are being suggested. It was disgusting that a government minister counters the opposition about the validity of registered voters in the manner that he has handeled this situation. I do not think that it is fair to keep going on in this way with all law abiding citizens. The goverment has ways to make sure of who is elegible to vote in Malta, he has the social security department, Vat department, internal revenue department, the Police & a hundred other govermental institutions that can help make sure that who ever votes has the right to do so. So please make sure mr Prime minister that the upholding of our principal values of honesty, integrity & responsablieties are adhered to.

Is this THE ONLY THING that PNGONZI has failed in?

PM fails to reassure on electoral list’s accuracy
If the PM gave so many assurances such as in the budget and he failed miserably in all of the, what makes you think that whatever assurance he can give can be relied upon?

This is an eye opener for the PL to be more vigilant as gonziPN will resort to any tatic in order to hang on to power. They know that they have a lot to lose and above that a lot of dirty linen that needs be washed. Also PL must look into the cheap airmalta flights for those who come to vote. If there is the possibility that certain quarters would know the election dates before being officially announced in order to fill up flights with their own supporters. PL under such circumstances keep a look out on bookings running up to the election dates. In fact this charade of cheap tickets should be done away with. 1. First of all because its the maltese tax payer who has to make up for the expenses. 2. Secondly it is a reliable source to cheat.
