Maltese women- the better drivers?

Many say that women drivers are bad drivers, but facts may differ when it comes to Maltese women drivers…
On contacting NSO, Maltastar.com found that 144 male drivers were involved in traffic accidents during the first quarter of the year, while 136 drivers were female.
120 of the females slightly injured themselves in the accidents, while 14 suffered grievous injuries and 2 died. When it came to the men, 106 suffered slight injuries while 33 suffered grievous injuries. 5 of the male drivers lost their lives.
The NSO statistic which was published today found that, when studying the number of accidents during the second quarter of the year traffic, one can see that accidents are on the rise, with a total of 3,838 accidents reported, 144 cases more than last year.
The statistic, showed how increases were recorded in all districts except Gozo. The highest increase, an 8.8% increase, was recorded in the North district, more specifically the northern Harbour area where 1,447 cases were reported, 37.7% of the total number of accidents. 283 casualties were reported, 166 involving drivers with 125 suffering slight injuries and 38 grievously injuries.
During the second quarter of the year 28 people suffered grievous injuries. 12 were passengers and 16 pedestrians. 88 were slightly injured. 59 were passengers and 29 pedestrians. In total three drivers lost their lives in traffic accidents during this period and one passenger died.
There were 213 slightly injured persons in the second quarter of 2010, 114 males and 99 females. The majority of casualties were in the 25-39 age bracket. 77.0% of traffic casualties were caused by passenger cars, followed by motorcycles at 12.7%; 9.9 per cent were caused by goods-carrying
vehicles.
In the second quarter, the highest casualty rate occurred on Sundays, accounting for 21.2% of total casualties. The highest accident rate was recorded on Fridays, totaling 621 cases, and the lowest on Sundays, with 455 cases. However, Sundays topped the highest casualty-to-accident ratios. The statistic confirmed that the daily time bracket in which most accidents occur is between 12:00 and 14:59, with 866 cases, or 22.6 per cent of the total. This is followed by the 09:00-11:59 time bracket, with 772 cases. The lowest number of accidents happened between 00:00 and 02:59, 104 cases).
Birkirkara registered the highest rate of traffic accidents, with 226 cases. Marsa and Qormi were next, with 210 and 204 reported accidents respectively.
