Tottenham Hotspur dominated the first leg of their Europa League last 16 tie with a 3-0 win against Inter to put them in the driving seat ahead of the return leg next week in Milan. The turbulent season for Raphael Benitez continued with a 1-0 loss to Steau Bucharest though Benitez remained defiant that his side could turn the tie around in the second leg at Stamford Bridge.

Newcastle earned a goal-less draw at Anzhi Makhackala to leave manager Alan Pardew confident they can win at St James’s Park. Lazio gave themselves a firm grip on their last 16 tie with a 209 win at Stuttgart. FC Basle claimed a 2-0 win over Zenit St Petersburg who knocked Liverpool out in the previous round.

It’s a busy weekend for English football with clubs involved in premier matches and FA Cup ties. After their commanding win over Inter in the Europa League Tottenham visit improving Liverpool on Sunday. Home advantage may give Newcastle the edge over Stoke.

Five times FA Cup winners Everton take on premier strugglers Wigan in 6th round of the Cup tomorrow. Barnsley’s fine cup run may come to an end at Manchester City. Millwall and Blackburn meet in an all Championship tie. After losing their Europa League first leg tie at Steau Bucharest Chelsea will not be looking forward to a daunting FA Cup tie at Manchester United.

AC Milan can narrow the gap on second placed Napoli if they win at Genoa tonight. La Liga leaders Barcelona take on Deportivo and in Germany Bayern Munich play Dussledorf.
