Hailstorm hits Malta

Tuesday, 15 Jan 2013, 12:52

Malta has been hit by severe weather, with a hailstorm reported in Mosta and nearby places.

The sky suddenly darkened and  hail stones as big as a fist covered the streets in white. The storm hit the northern  parts of Malta, with Bugibba, Mosta and Naxxar seems to be hit the most.

Lightening and a downpour of heavy rain replaced the sunshine in a matter of minutes. Readers reported broken  windows with the strong wind.

The Civil Protection Department has issued a weather warning.

Motorists were urged to avoid low lying areas because of the risk of flooding.
