The highlight of Sunday’s horse racing programme was undoubtedly the Cassar Petroleum Championship Final for Premier Category horses.

Twelve of Malta’s most prominent trotters took part in this final many of them boasting impressive victories and local timings. Although looking to be quite a well balanced race, as always some horses start as more fancied than others with the punters but this never means that the other horses are at any disadvantage. This point was certainly proven in last Sunday’s final as in the last 100m outsider Troy Boshoeve found just enough space on the inside to snatch the victory.

Gozitan owned Troy Boshoeve was driven by one of his owners Salvu Vella and he was timed at 1’15”5/km over 2140m. This 11-year old German horse made his debut in Malta on 16th September 2011 in the Premier Category and the final was his 19th local race as well as his first victory on the island.

Trophy presentation was effected by Mr Darren Marmara C.E.O. of Cassar Petroleum Services Ltd.

Four condition races were also sponsored by Cassar Petroleum and these were won by Netter Williams (Gold Category), Simb From Abroad (Silver Category), Napol de Mai (Bronze Category) and Esmeralda Run (Copper Category).

I would also like to note that the collection effected on behalf of Puttinu Cares during the races reached the very handsome some of Euro 871.30. Thank you everyone for your kind generosity.
