Prisoner reform failure at Corradino

Recently published statistics clearly show that the Corradino Correction Facility is definitely not functioning and the CCF is no more than a prison with a new name.

Figures show that almost a third of inmates at Corradino are relapsers. This is a clear indication that the reformatory support that should be extended to prisoners is practically non-existent. This is something that the Labour Party has insisted upon time and time again, said Dr. Michael Falzon, PL spokesman on Security and Immigration.

The situation at the Prison facility has deteriorated steadily these last years. Rampant drug abuse, lack of facilities and a shortage of staff have contributed to the degenerative situation at the Prison. Since the responsibility of the Interior Ministry has been taken over by the Office of the Prime Minister, matters have taken a turn for the worse. So much so, that it is being rumored that a prisoner is now on a hunger strike as a protest on the bad situation within the prison facility.

GonziPN has hardly taken any remedial action, except a recent call for prison warders. This was probably more of an election vote catching exercise than out of concern for the prison institution. In fact, this call has raised some serious questions particularly about a certain officer, a Major who is well known for his political sympathy.  Dr. Falzon concluded by saying that this is another example of the failed polices of GonziPN and that in its last days, this government is more intent on recovering votes than on the needs of the country.
