European Commission sources have told maltastar.com that Louis Galea who is at present at the European Court of Auditors is the most likely person to replace EU Health and Consumer Affairs Commissioner John Dalli who resigned yesterday.
The European Commission sees Galea’s nomination for Commissioner as enjoying bipartisan support in Malta like his nomination for the Court of Auditors. The European Commission would like a non-controversial nomination to fill the post and would not like to be faced with having a Commissioner being asked resign if there is a change of government in Malta.
The EU anti-fraud office OLAF, whose investigation led to the resignation of Dalli falls under the remit of the Court of Auditors and as Louis Galea has already been nominated successfully for it he will have no problems being cleared to fill the post of EU Commissioner.

- Wed 17-Oct-2012, 22:19What audacity does the European Commission has imposing on us that it ''would not like to be faced with having a Commissioner being asked to resign..........Malta'?
Is the European Commision not aware that when there is a change of Government, all CEOs', chairmen, Commissioners, etc. are to resign from their posts?
Hope that the PL will make this clear to the Commission
