DHL employees will be benefitting from the first collective agreement negotiated and signed on their behalf by the GWU’s Professionals, Finance and Services Section following the company’s fully recognising the GWU as the sole representative of DHL Express (Malta) employees.
The collective agreement, which is the first of its kind in the courier sector and logistics services provides for better conditions of work including higher wages and salaries, special leave and additional leave amongst other benefits.
The signing of this collective agreement was conducted by Mr. Charles Schiavone, local Manager of DHL, for the Company and by Dr.Cory Greenland Section Secretary and Josef Attard, shop steward for the GWU. DHL Global, the mother company, had a share in the negotiations leading to the final collective agreement.
DHL Express (Malta) is a subsidiary of DHL Global which is a major company in the distribution of express packages and post to more than 220 countries world-wide. It employs a total of 275,000 workers.
Following this collective agreement, the GWU appeals to employees of other companies that are involved in the services and distribution of packs and post to seek GWU membership so they too will have their collective interests protected.
