In his blog on Monday MP Franco Debono has called on President of Malta George Abela to intervene as guardian of the Constitution to stop the Prime Minister blocking crucial parliamentary debates "but then goes on partisan charades on Sunday mornings saying these were in preparation for a ghost budget. Dr Gonzi saying that the Sunday sermons are a preparation for the Ghost Budget when he doesn’t have a majority is the worst kind of insult to our democracy, which he has destroyed and reduced to an Oligarchy."
MP Franco Debono said on Monday morning that “the St Philips deal, both in itself but especially in the way Parliament has been treated by GonziPN with utter disdain and contempt constitutes another very valid reason to vote against the coming Budget.”
Debono said that there is a majority in parliament that wants a proper scrutiny of this deal but Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi is treating parliament with contempt and ignoring it. “This is in very bad taste and shows a lack of even the most basic Christian values. Attending mass is not enough if one behaves in the worst possible manner towards those who disagree with one.”
Debono said that Health Minister Joe Cassar instead of resigning for his incompetence “now drags the country into another €12 million problem.”
Debono also said that Dr Gonzi did not keep his word with coalition partner MP Jeffrey Pullicino Orlando, who would now be justified in not keeping his part of the deal to support the government.
Debono concluded his blog by saying: “Last January I had said Dr Gonzi and his Clique had reduced our democracy to an Oligarchy. Events over the past months have convinced the population at large that this was true. The situation has further degenerated since January. Gonzi is trailing the PL by twelve percent at the polls. Austin Gatt did not resign after the BWSC, Arriva, ARMS, Fairmount and Car Parks scandals.”

- Mon 15-Oct-2012, 22:02Dear Mr. Chris Galea,
Sorry to draw your attention to a serious error you have.
God forbid that you will need to take your dear mother or sister to Mater Dei (orapro nobis)and you do not find a bed etc, you should take them to GonziGattFenecAdamiPN and not to Franco.
Why?
For the simple reason (since you seem to be so naive) that Mater Dei was Fenech Adamis baby and the shameful situation of the Eur600,000,000.00 hospital has an acute shortage of beds thanks to the brilliant forsight of FenechAdami & GonziGattPN.
It also shows how irresponsable this government is when he went on a spending spree with a new parliament - which is now being rediculed in such a manner and a gaping breach in Valletta's bastions.
And it seems that you are only TOO HAPPY to fork our more taxes.
What a pity state we are all in!

- Mon 15-Oct-2012, 17:17May I draw the attention to Mr. Galea that contrary to his believes, St.Philip's hospital will not be an acute(emergency) hospital, but a rehab hospital. So should, God forbid, any of his relatives ever need hospitalisation, they would still be taken to Mater Dei.
If there's no space, than he should take them to the home of who paid € 600,000,000 for Mater Dei + oncology hospital + REHABILITATION HOSPITAL and did not get them delivered. So now we are paying once again for them.
WHICH BEGS THE QUESTION...WHERE HAS THAT PROPOSED MONEY GONE OR TO WHOM?

- Mon 15-Oct-2012, 17:07Italian President Giorgio Napolitano demanded ex Premier Berlusconi to face the House after Fini broke away from the PDL and ask for a vote of confidence. Napolitano based his demand on the fact that Berlusconi's new majority was a coalition for which dod people never voted and that it was too slender to carry on. Our President, who happens to be the most popular and respected the Republic has ever had would do well to follow in Napolitano's footsteps and demand our PM to face a vote of confidence in the House, right now.

- Mon 15-Oct-2012, 16:51I fully agree with the Hon Dr Franco Debono that it is about time that the President should intervene. According to our Constitution, the President is the guardian of our constitution and our constitution is there to safeguard democracy. The last circumstances leading to the St Philips Hospital shows in a very explicit manner that the Government actions are nothing less than a contempt of Parliament and contempt of democracy, for which the President is fully responsible.

- Mon 15-Oct-2012, 16:09the only way in respect of the democracy of our country is to intervene the president and urge the prim minister to call for a vote of majority in parlament if still have the majority in parlament. It's all time wasted by this Gonzipn.

- Mon 15-Oct-2012, 15:28Dr.Gonzi you are the worst prime minister that Malta ever had. You should be ashamed to what you have done. But mostly to allow to be a puppet of a few ministers.
AWAKE!
- Mon 15-Oct-2012, 15:08Building a new parlament and disrespecting parlamentary funtion is hypocritical, you are loosing the respect of the Maltese by the day, less people are going to vote for the PN, gone are the days of proper and exemplary conduct, and being on the right side of history.
We are ashamed to support the Party in the open.

- Mon 15-Oct-2012, 14:32The desperate situation in every aspect that our country is in.
The MEDIA which pretends that all are "independent' is responsible for the chaos in our country.
These people praise the Gonzipn when required but do nothing to show the same is his wrongdoings.

- Mon 15-Oct-2012, 14:02Dr Franco Debono you are a lawyer and as such you know the workings of the law. If there is a legal provision which can prevent the signing for the lease of St Philips why not take it up and register in Court?
Only such action would make Dr Gonzi & Co realize that Parliament is not to be overlooked and "you" representatives of the people are not to be rode roughshod over.

- Mon 15-Oct-2012, 14:01WAKE UP Mr President, we the people demand a real democratic goverment.
Your primary role and duty is to safeguard the constitution of the maltese islands, or have you now been reduced to just a figure head?
Utter Disgraceful
- Mon 15-Oct-2012, 13:52Dr Gonzi you deserve the utter wrath of God for what
you are doing to our dear Malta.
Very soon you will be reaping what you have and still sowing
by the government corrupt practices. Do you have any idea what is Governance is all
about?
Utterly arrogant and a disgraceful politician.

- Mon 15-Oct-2012, 13:44@ Chris Galea.
Franco Debono is not arguing against the undeniable need for more beds. What he, PL and JPO are asking for is that the matter should first be discussed in Parliament. I would have expected government to produce audited costings showing that the taxpayer is indeed better off with this deal rather than refurbishing an area within St. Luke's equivalent to the area within st. Philip's. Is that too much to ask for? Are the GonziPN Ministers that cavalier with their own personal funds?

- Mon 15-Oct-2012, 13:40The disperate situation in every aspect that our country is in. Is only the fault of GonziPartitNegattiv and every PN supporter who although is wathching 'Rome burning' still support the PN, that is the Partit Negattiv.
It is not the fault of John Dalli, Franco Debono, Jeffrey Pullicino Orlando or Jesmond Mugliett.

- Mon 15-Oct-2012, 13:03Dear Franco
As you keep insisting against an alternative emergency hospital.. Please note that
if I admit my dear mother or sister at Mater Dei Hospital and won't find a proper nursing bed and decent space in a ward, please note that I will ask for an ambulance to bring my relative to your home. Be prepared and please see that you get permission from your parents..
