Record of lying

The Nationalist Party’s philosophy of lying will dominate the political scene in the forthcoming election campaign.  Their latest billboard is a confirmation that the Gonzi administration will stop at nothing to try and hang on to power. Politicians within the PN propaganda machine, who are shameless liars, are a reflection on the party, not only on themselves. But then again, PN party leaders have a proven track record of lying.

Tonio Fenech and Beppe Fenech Adami both spoke at the launch of their new billboard. Ironically, Beppe Fenech Adami has a family history of lying during election campaigns. His father, in his role as PN leader, lied about the then leader of the Labour Party. Dr. Fenech Adami’s blatant lie, for which he was found guilty and fined, was uttered during the final electoral debate on television.

This was matched by Dr. Gonzi’s lie, also on the eve of the general election that he was unaware of details about the JPO case, when it later transpired that he knew all about it and he even instructed Cachia Caruana to orchestrate it. The real surprise is that the PN lies started early in this campaign.

Dr. Joseph Muscat never made such a statement. The PN has the means to verify this but not the willpower to be honest about it. The major trade unions, the General Workers Union and the Union Ħaddiema Magħqudin have agreed with the principle. Even the Malta Employers’ Association and the Chamber of commerce have understood the message of Joseph Muscat and the Labour party. They have spoken about it and confirmed that the most important factor is improving living conditions for those earning a minimum wage. This is what the Labour party has said all along.

Surely, GonziPN has also understood the message. However it is driven by panic and deceit. It is a disgrace on the people who have to resort to lies to defend their own misdeeds as much as it is a disgrace on the people who approve such a campaign. GonziPN has fooled the people too often to be credible. Joseph Muscat never said that the PL will freeze the minimum wage and the people know that it is the truth.
