Wage freeze?

Can somebody please explain to me how Muscat's wording regarding minimum wage meant wage freezing?

One thing is certain; Joseph Muscat has a clear vision what to do. Why? Well first of all, although he's contesting for the election, he didn't speak about just 'nice' things. He was totally honest about not being able to raise the minimum wage at the beginning of the legislature.

Raising the minimum wage would have been an irresponsible act. Families will be helped by the reduction of electricity and water bills, which are today a major contributor in the family's monthly spending. That would result in a less stressing situation. This would not only reduce stress on families but also on employers. Everyone gets their respective bills and taxes.

The raise in minimum wage would be irresponsible as it would put a heavier burden on the employers. This would result in an increase in unemployment, more illegal jobs and more jobs under the worst of conditions. This is why altering the minimum wage would be an irresponsible act right now. If anything we need the increase in employment, and easing the burden on families and employers.

"A new PN government would continue to offer the best education opportunities for the young, high quality health services, and jobs."

And please, end this "New PN government." The "new" is misleading. You had enough time to show your qualities. Your 'best' education means the highest amount of school dropouts in the EU. Your high quality health services means waiting after an endless queue. Your number of new jobs means being actually around 40% of what you issued, not to mention that half of them are part time jobs.

It was easy for you to promise points such as the reduction in income tax. However it seemed as if you failed to deliver.

Some Other Points:

1. the minimum wage was established for the very first time by a Labour Government in 1974.
2. It was and still is increased each year by the cost of living allowance (COLA)
3. No government, not even GonziPN had ever increased the minimum wage except though COLA.

So I ask, why should you argue on this issue?
