The Labour Party has been justified in claiming VAT refunds on behalf of car owners.

Joseph Muscat and the Labour party were proved right in taking up the case on behalf of the many car owners who were overcharged  certain taxes in relation to car registration.

In a verdict handed down two days ago by the Courts of Law, the Maltese governemnt was ordered, among other things, to refund the VAT on the car registration that the car owners were charged. The case, against the Government of Malta,  was instituted by a Maltese couple, who had purchased a car and had it imported from abroad.

The Labour party has ben saying that the tax imposed by GonziPN was illegal and was against European Union regulations. The PL had argued the case with the government but the Gonzi administration refused to listen to reason and refused to consider these pleas. There were 17,000 separate cases brought before the PL and the Labour party had instituted a court case claiming refunds, on their behalf. This case is still being heard.

Joseph Muscat had said that the Labour Party in government will address this injustice and the decision to do so, has been strenghtened with the verdict handed down by the Courts of Law.
