It’s a massive night for local football as Malta take on Italy in a World Cup qualifier.

Malta were disappointing in their 1-0 defeat against Armenia last week while Italy failed to impress in a nervy 2-2 draw with Bulgaria.

Coach Pietro Ghedin said he was happy with the efforts of the Maltese players but tonight, in Modena, against one of the giants of football, he will be demanding even greater performances from all his players.

England take on Ukraine tonight with boss Roy Hodgson defending his decision to include Raheem Sterling in the squad.

The 17 year old has impressed at Liverpool but Hodgson say he is unlikely to feature tonight, he just wants the youngster to get a taste of international football.

Among tonight’s other qualifiers Northern Ireland take on Luxembourg, Wales travel to Serbia, Scotland are home to Macedonia and defending world champions Spain are away to Georgia.

Scotland’s Andy Murray beat Mocak Djokovic to win the U S Open in Flushing Meadows in New York.

It’s Murray’s first Grand Slam title and the first time a British player has won a Grand Slam since Fred Perry in 1936.
