40 year old Alfred Zahra born in the UK and living in Bugibba was charged that in the night between 24 and 25 August he had an argument with Vincent Cutajar who is a security guard at Fuego and hit him with a glass causing him serious injuries. The argument involved the sister of the accused who intervened to stop a fight that was going on.
Zahra pleaded not guilty to attacking or resisting Cutajar. He was also charged with threatening Cutajar and with being drunk and unable to control himself and with disturbing public peace.
The prosecution opposed the bail request of the accused as he did not go to the Police Station when asked and had to be issued with an arrest warrant.
Zahra’s defence lawyer denied that he did not go to the Police Station and that there is a risk the leaves Malta as he has his family living here. He also said that the CCTV footage shows what happened during the incident and no one can dispute the facts shown.
The court said that Zahra has to be kept at the Corradino Corrective Facility until all the witnesses give their testimony.
