49 year old Giovanni Micallef from Tarxien and living at St Paul’s Bay was charged with using a false identity and with cheating people by promising them to get them a job and to buy things from overseas at a cheap price.

He cheated seven persons by charging them between €380 and €400 each. He promised them cheap TV sets and other appliances from Bulgaria, he was paid but he never delivered on his promises. He had also promised people to find them jobs on oil-rigs.

The police told the court that he has already paid back most of the money he took but still has to give back €2,000.

Micallef was granted bail after paying a personal guarantee of €3,000.
