Labour leader Joseph Muscat expressed his gratitude towards the dignified way the whole nation paid its last respects to Dom Mintoff. He thanked everyone also on behalf of the Labour Party for the national unity shown during Mintoff’s state funeral.
Muscat said that at times like these one feels proud of the achievements of the Maltese people at different periods in history and will do so again in the future.
Muscat said that the moment that the crowd outside St John’s Co-cathedral spontaneously broke out into singing the national anthem is a moment I will treasure all my life.”
In the meantime Muscat has appointed deputy leader Toni Abela to head a committee that will be in charge of all the official initiatives together with the Mintoff family to commemorate Mintoff. A programme of such initiatives will be announced shortly and the Labour Party has made it very clear that only the official initiatives of this committee have the recognition and support of the party and the Mintoff family.

- Sun 26-Aug-2012, 17:24I sincerely hope that the Labour Party and Mintoff's Family positively considers a Monument in Bormla. It's a well document fact that our dear Dom was deeply in love with his hometown and lets me honest, il-Bormlizi never doubted their love and affection towards Dom. Please, Please, lets not try and re-write history, Bormla has always been with Dom and Dom has always been with Bormla, lets give due credit to this Historical fact, please!
