Barroso sends his condolences to PM Gonzi

EU Commission President Jose' Manoel Barroso sent his condolences to Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi upon the death of former Prime Minister and Labour leader Dom Mintoff.

"I have learned with sadness of the passing away of Dom Mintoff, former Prime Minister of the Republic of Malta.

In his political life, especially amid the post-war challenges, Mr Mintoff endeavoured to bring forward the interests of his country and fellow citizens.

On behalf of the European Commission and on my own behalf, I present to you and to the family of Mr Mintoff my most sincere condolences," he wrote.

Meanwhile, Labour leader Joseph Muscat received condolences from Hannes Swoboda on behalf of the Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats (S&D) in the European Parliament.

How about sending condolences to his party and the Maltese people who adored Dom Mintoff and his ideology.
Or is it protocol?
