80 migrants - 56 men and 24 women were brought to Malta on Monday evening at 11.10 after being saved at sea by the Armed Forces of Malta.
The Rescue and Coordination Centre (RCC) of the Armed Forces of Malta (AFM) was on Monday informed that a boat possibly carrying irregular migrants was in Malta's Search and Rescue Region.
An AFM B200 King Air aircraft was scrambled to the area to locate and investigate the reported vessel. A rubber dinghy carrying a group of migrants was eventually successfully located and monitored. The Operations Centre of the AFM dispatched a Protector Class Patrol Vessel (P51) to the position. After accessing the situation it was decided that the dinghy was not in a position to continue its voyage and therefore all the migrants were transferred onboard P51.
