Another win for Malta

Malta maintained their winning run with a solid 3-2 victory in a friendly international against San Marino.
Malta fell behind to an early strike by San Marino but two quick goals from Michael Mifsud and Andre Agius  put Malta back in control.

Mifsud got his second late in the game to give Malta a comfortable lead and although the hosts  scored from the penalty spot with only minutes remaining, Malta deserved their win and gave coach Pietro Ghedin his second successive win since he took over the national team.

There was an equally impressive win for the U/21 side who dominated Liechtenstein in a friendly at the Hiberian’s stadium.

Ray Farrugia’s side romped to a 4-1 win, a good boost ahead of their UEFA U/21 .qualifier against Ukraine next month.

England take on Italy tonight in a friendly international as both sides wind up their preparations for the 2014 World Cup qualifiers.

England boss Roy Hodgson has given a number of young players the chance to impress saying that he is building a team for the World Cup.

Steven Gerrard, John Terry and Wayne Rooney are all rested for tonight’s game.

Their opponents Italy have also made sweeping changes with coach Cesare Prandelli fielding eight uncapped players.
