World Cup

Malta continues their preparations for the 2014 World Cup qualifiers with a friendly away to San Marino today.
This will be the first time these two sides have ever met.

After the summer break, national coach Pietro Ghedin will be looking to continue the good form that Malta showed in their last two games, beating Liechtenstein and Luxembourg.

The real test though will be the world cup qualifier against Italy next month.

The U/21 are also in action tonight, they play Liechtenstein in a friendly at the Hibernin’s stadium.

League Cup

There were a number of English League Cup games last night with Sheffield Wednesday staging a remarkable come-back from two goals down to beat Oldham Athletic 4-2.

Among tonight’s League Cup ties, Birmingham play Barnet, Crystal Palace are away to Exeter and Cardiff ravel to Northampton.

Olympic’s: Drug test failure

Belarussia’s Olympic Shot Putt champion Nadzeya Ostapchuk has been stripped of her gold medal after failing a drugs test.

Officials say that test samples may be kept for up to eight years.
