GWU on police bonus: improve salaries

General Workers Union said that it glad that government has decided to give a one off bonus to the police force in recognition of the work it does for the country. But GWU said on Saturday that this bonus should be part of the salary paid to the police.

GWU said that government must pay overtime and allowances to the police and hopes that this bonus is to compensate for the huge amount of money due to the police for the overtime they carried out and have not been paid for it.

GWU said government’s decision to give this bonus for its own convenience shows how crucial it is for members of the police force to be allowed to join a union that would be able to negotiate better working conditions for them as is their right.

GWU also said that while government has decided to pay a bonus to the police, it should do the same with the Civil Protection Department personnel, the army and prison wardens.
