Usain Bolt led a Jamican 1-2-3 in the men’s 200m final.

Bolt, winner of the 100m became the first man to complete an Olympic double double.

He won the 100m and 200m in Beijing four years ago and retained his Olympic titles in London.

Yohan Blake again had to settle for silver with Warren Weir taking bronze.

David Rudisha of Kenya set a new world record for the 800m, the first athlete to set a new track record so far at these games.

Jade Jones took gold for great Britain in Taekwando, the first time a British athlete has won the Olympic event.

There was another piece of history in women’s boxing as Nicloa Adams gave Team GB their first Olympic boxing gold and Katie Taylor punched her way to Ireland’s first gold medal outpointing Russia’s Sofya Ochigava.

World champion Christian Taylor showed his class with the longest leap this year to win the men’s triple jump ahead of fellow American Will Claye.

There was a deserved bronze for veteran Fabrizio Donato, Italy’s European champion.

Liverpool were in impressive mood as they cruised to a 3-0 win over FK Gomel in the second leg of their Europa League qualifier.

Inter were stunned by a 2-0 defeat at home to Hajduk Split but the Itlaian’s progressed to the next round thanks to their first leg 3-0 win.
