Olympics

Malta’s William Chetcuti just missed out on a place in the final shoot-off in the men’s Double Trap at the London Olympics.

A nervy opening round in blustery conditions saw Chetcuti drop to 14th place but he fought back to end in 9th position, just two clays short of  a place in the final.

The gold went to Britain’s Peter Wilson with Dahlby of Sweden taking silver and Russia’s Mosin bronze.

Diane Borg goes in the heats of the women’s 100 sprints this morning as the athletes take to the track for the first time in the games and Nicola Muscat will be in the pool for the women’s 50m freestyle.

It was a good day for the British competitors

Team GB took gold and silver in canoeing,  they also clinched gold in the men’s cycling sprint  races, silver in judo and rowing and Andy Murray is within sight of an Olympic medal after reaching the tennis semi-finals after beating Spain’s Nicolas Almagro in straight sets.

Super Cup

The two top teams tackle each other in the Super Cup tonight.

Premier champions Valletta take on FA Trophy winners Hibernian’s in the season’s warm-up competition.

Europa League

Liverpool won the first leg of their Europa League third round qualifier against Gomel of Belarusia thanks to a Stewart Downing second half strike.
