Olympics

Andrew Chetcuti was Malta’s first athlete in action at London 2012.

Chetcuti posted the third fastest time in qualifying for the 100m freestyle and finished third in his first round heat.

Great Britain’s men won bronze in the gymnastics final, their first Olympic medal in over 100 years.

They had originally been in silver medal place but were relegated to third following an appeal by the Japanese team who moved from 4th to second behind the gold medal winners China.

France’s Yannick Agnel took gold in the  men’s 200m freestyle as America’s Ryan Lochte finished out of the medals in 4th.

South Korea’s Park and China’s Sun Yung shared the silver.

Football

West Ham look set to sign Liverpool and England striker Andy Carroll on a season long loan deal.

Since his 35 million pound move from Newcastle to Liverpool, Carroll has struggled to regain his form and with new manager Brendan Rodgers bringing in Fabio Borini from Roma, his place has looked under threat.

There is plenty of Olympic football today with Great Britain’s ladies lining up against Brazil.

France take on Colombia and the United States face Korea.
