U.S. Navy ship USS Cape St. George (CG-71) returned to Malta’s historic Grand Harbour on 19 July. The ship’s last visit to Malta was in 1995. While in Malta, the crew enjoyed a few days of rest and recuperation and had ample opportunity to visit the historical and cultural treasures of Malta. Several members of the crew volunteered to participate in a community relations project at Dar Merhba Bik in Balzan assisting in general maintenance of the premises.
Commenting on the generosity of the crewmembers, U.S. Ambassador Gina Abercrombie-Winstanley said, “I am proud to see the best of U.S. Navy traditions being put into practice here in Malta. In every country they visit, U.S. Navy crewmembers consistently volunteer to reciprocate the warm hospitality they receive by participating in various community projects. The camaraderie between the Maltese and our American volunteers is synonymous with the excellent bilateral relationship our two countries enjoy.”
