PN leadership split on election date

While Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi wants to hang on till the bitter end and try to have an election in 2013, a growing number of ministers and top PN officials want an election to be called late September/early October 2012.

Thos who have been supporting the PM in having a 2013 election are worried that since January the party has not managed to attract back the thousands of voters who have decided not to vote PN in the coming election. They are hoping that the current opinion polls they are carrying out since the resignation of MP Jeffrey Pullicino Orlando from the PN will show a surge of sympathy for the PN. They are worried that so far the PN seems to be losing further ground rather than regaining it.

But Pullicino Orlando’s decision to respect the wishes of his over 5,100 voters by following the electoral mandate of 2008 and yet resigning from the party because of Richard Cachia Caruana’s and Minister Austin Gatt’s way of doing politics seems to have struck a sympathetic chord with the electorate.

The PN strategy team is eagerly awaiting the results of the opinion poll the PN is conducting to see how the electorate has reacted to the latest twists in the PN crisis.

please do not trust the PN even if it invites you for tea, as there is venom in it for sure. Be rest assured that a last day lie will materialise, their systm is to play the role of the repentent bride to attract sympathy. And all this talk of labour being ahead, in polls ...I do not like it. Better stick to Joseph`s words that Labour has a long uphill struggle against the Nationalist vested interests who are willing to undergo legal, outer polished criminal acts to retain power before and after the election if Labour wins

The date is immaterial. The result will be the same whatever. That is a certain victory for LABOUR. The only uncertain thing is what will be the overall administrative and financial position left by the Gonzi. Good luck to our leader Joseph. He needs it.

Stop worrying. Whatever the date the result will be the same. A victory for Labour. The only grave concern is what would be the overall position left behind by the Gonzi government (sic) which our leader will have to face. Good luck to him. He needs it.

Sounds more like a "banana slip" to me.
