Labour Deputy leader Anglu Farrugia was one of the special guests invited to events organized in Enna, Sicily to commemorate the 20 anniversary since the Mafia assassination of the two Italian Judges Giovanni Falcone and Paolo Borsellino.
In his speech Dr Farrugia paid tribute to the role played by the two judges against international organized crime. He said that Sicily cannot enjoy economic growth if the Mafia remains strong and the Mafia can only be weakened if a struggle is waged against political corruption. He said that corruption is another tax that people have to bear. Dr Farrugia said that even in Malta not enough is done to eradicate political corruption. He said that even international institutions did not give their contribution when these two judges stood alone against the mafia and investigated its international links.
Dr Farrugia’s speech was very well received by all those present and together with the rest of the activity was given wide coverage in the Italian media.
