Team Sky’s Bradley Wiggins strengthened his grip on the leader’s yellow jersey with another dominating ride on the final mountain stage.

He looks set to claim the yellow jersey when the race ends in Paris on Sunday to become the first British rider to win the tour in its 109 year history.

Golf
Australian Adam Scott tops the leaderboard after the first round of the Open at Royal Lytham  and St Annes.

Scott finished on 64, 6 under par, three shots clear of Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy.

Formula One
Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso leads the driver’s championship ahead of Sunday’s German Grand Prix at Hockenheim.

The Red Bulls of Vettall and Webber as well as McLarens Hamilton and Button are confident of challenging for a podium finish.

Olympics
Reigning Olympic champion Raphael Nadal has pulled our ot the London Olympics which start next week.

He was due to carry the flag for Spain at the opening ceremony but he said he just was not fit enough to compete.
