The deputy ambassador held a meeting for the employees at Dar Malta in Brussels to introduce to Marlene Bonnici who is taking over from Richard Cachia Caruana as Malta's EU Permanent Represntative. He described her as "hardworking and human".
Employees could not help reflecting on the use of the word "human" when Bonnici was compared to Cachia Caruana.
Yestrday governmetn announced that Marlene Bonnici has been appointed as Permanent Representative of Malta to the European Union following the resignation of Mr Richard Cachia Caruana. The appointment of Bonnici came on the same day that the PN Executive meeting is deciding the latter's fate in the Nationalist Party.
Richard Cachia Caruana resigned from his position after a motion against him in parliament was approved with all Opposition MPs and Nationalist MP Jeffrey Pullicino Orlando voting in favour of the removal.
Bonnici started her career in the Maltese diplomatic service in 1992.

- Tue 17-Jul-2012, 20:10It wouldbe intersting if the PL could issue a profile of these appontees. I am certain that we would discover that most of them were rabid PL supporters or street leaders or whatever. This applies to all those high flying officers with fabulous salaries andperks overloading the various govt boards, authorities etc etc.
Do you think you the information to do so? I doubt it. You seem unbale to recall what happened a few years ago.
Meritocracy
- Tue 17-Jul-2012, 19:34Becoming a director in 9 years, that is over 7 positions from the entry point in the service, whilst those who were at the foreign ministry in 1987 did not get one promotion in 25 years. Up with meritocracy under the PN.

- Tue 17-Jul-2012, 19:01Surprising little world; a person of Bonnici's caliber found in such a short time. Probably she is brighter, more articulate and more loyal than her predecessor....surprise surprise she is cheaper too.! She'll do three jobs and get paid for one; there's a patriot and a women of integrity for me; she's not in it for bucks!
