
In parliament on Monday evening Labour MP Joe Sammut called on government to hold an inquiry into a contract for the purchase of 10 cars by Transport Malta (TM) that was awarded to a Managing Director in the Committee for Maritime Affairs at Transport Malta. Sammut said: “An internal inquiry is not enough as it will serve only to cover up this case where there is a blatant conflict of interest.”
Sammut said even the code of ethics of TM is being broken. “The tender was awarded to a member of the committee led by the TM’s chairman Mark Portelli.

There will be simply an overload of cases to be investigated and not enough professionals to carry out proper checks. And not counting the many many files from all departments which would go missing!
