At present the YMCA Homeless Shelter in Valletta is home to 26 individuals, most of which are women and children. Add to this, YMCA Homeless also provides a community service to those individuals going through a rough patch, but who are not necessarily homeless. Through both services, our team of professionals assist some 60 persons from all walks of life every day. Did you know that YMCA performed over 10,000 interventions in the last year? Malta has a pleasant, mediterranean, sunny lifestyle. But for some people, this is only a distant dream. Their reality is dramatically different.
Their situations can be domestic violence, matrimonial difficulties, child abuse, mental health problems, unemployment, substandard housing - and homelessness. They come to YMCA to help them put things right, sometimes they just need advice, sometimes food for the table, sometimes it is more serious. People from all walks of life come to YMCA, but they share this: at some point, at some time in their life something went seriously wrong.
Professional services like these cost a lot of money - over a quarter of a million euros a year and the government only funds a small portion of our operational costs. The rest always has to come from fund-raising campaigns and donations.
This trip will be led by qualified and experience guides and all equipment will be provided for you.
