May 2012: industrial production drops by 1.2%

In May, industrial production decreased by 1.2 per cent over the previous month. Over the corresponding month last year, working-day adjusted industrial production went down by 0.8 per cent.

The National Statistics Office (NSO) said on Monday that compared to the previous month, the index of industrial production decreased by 1.2 per cent to 104.5 points in May. The production of intermediate goods and consumer goods decreased by 1.3 and 2.2 per cent respectively, while the production of energy and capital goods increased by 1.0 and 0.8 per cent respectively.

NSO said that when compared to May 2011, the index of industrial production decreased by 0.8 per cent. The decline of 4.5 per cent in the production of intermediate goods was mitigated by an increase in the production of energy (3.1 per cent), capital goods (2.4 per cent) and consumer goods (1.9 per cent).
