The Wall Street Journal reports that the EU plans to hold further talks with Iran about its nuclear programme after Tuesday's one-day meeting in Istanbul failed to find a solution.

In a statement, foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton said that experts from the two sides "explored positions on a number of technical subjects" at the talks, while a diplomat said that "detailed exchanges took place" and that it was "an informative meeting".

The paper says it is expected that a date for the continuing talks, between Iran's deputy nuclear negotiator Ali Bagheri and EU foreign minister deputy Helga Schmid will be set within a couple of days.
