On Wednesday morning the Armed Forces of Malta (AFM) saw a boat with around 40 migrants going towards Sicily.

AFM said that the majority of the persons on board indicated that all was well and insisted on their right of passage and headed for Sicily. However, four of the persons on board requested medical assistance. Three women and an infant were transferred to Malta to receive medical assistance.

They arrived at Hay Wharf Base onboard the P23 patrol vessel at 1530h, AFM said in a statement.

Migrants onboard are claiming to be from Pakistan, Somalia and Kashmir.

The AFM said it was continuously monitoring the migrant craft to ensure safe passage.
