FOR.U.M. said on Wednesday that the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) report for June, stated the following: “ The EIU also remarks on the recent expansion of the Malta Council for Economic and Social Development which now also includes FOR.U.M. and the Gozo Regional Committee, says that this is likely to hinder its effectiveness and make reaching agreement between social partners on issues such as wage indexation reform and pension system more difficult”.

The Forum of Maltese Unions called this remark “disreputable, shameful and defamatory” and says it is convinced there must be a hidden agenda coming from a local organisation whose sole intention is to defame and slander both the For.U.M. and the Local Regional Committee.

FOR.UM said “it would be very interesting if EIU would reveal the source of such a scandalous remark. For.U.M. officials have now already attended three MCESD meeting offering a valid, positive, sound and effective contribution for the benefit of the country and Maltese Workers. For.U.M. expects the MCESD Chairman, Government and Opposition to also condemn these manouvers.”
