First half goals from Silva and Alba set the Spanish on their way to a third successive tournament title with Torres and Mota putting the result beyond doubt in the second half.
Italy gave their best but were hampered by injuries and then reduced to ten men when after using all their substitutes, Mota went off injured just minutes after coming on.
It was probably one game too many for Italy but no-one could deny that Spain deserved their victory.
